Gender aspects of San Jiao (Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism)

Abstract
The article examines the “Three Teachings” known as “San Jiao” (Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism) from the viewpoint of gender issues. An analysis of the approaches towards the social status of a woman in the ancient Chinese society and questions of gender equality that were adopted by the three teachings is conducted. The authors come to a conclusion that Confucianism is more androcentric at its core than the teachings of Buddhism and Daoism which have greatly influenced the process of female emancipation in China.
