Lookism in South Korea as a social phenomenon at the beginning of the 21st century

Abstract. The following article is devoted to the study of such a phenomenon in the society of the Republic of Korea in the XXI century as discrimination in appearance, in other words called lookism. The relevance of the study is justified by the massive prevalence of the considered acute social problem in South Korean society. The main goals of the work are to analyze the relevant literature, structural and functional acquaintance with the necessary terminology, as well as diachronic observation of the influence of lookism on representatives of the society of the considered region. As a result of the research, there are highlighted the main reasons that inhibit the growth of social psychological tolerance in the minds of Koreans and the entire Korean society as a whole and reinforce the tendency to discriminate against others based on their appearance.
